Shall I strive with words to move 行いが当然の好意を得られないなら
When deeds receive not due regard? ことばを尽くして心を動かしましょうか?
Shall I speak and neither please 気に入ってもらえずとも、
Nor be freely heard? 耳を傾けてもらえずとも話しをしましょうか?
Grief, alas though all in vain, ああ、すべてはむなし<
Her restless anguish must reveal, 彼女の不断の苦しみがあらわになる。
She alone my wound shall know, 彼女こそ私の痛手のもと
Though she will not heal. でもその傷を彼女はいやしてくれない。
All woes have end, though awhile delay'd すべての悲しみは終わった。
Our patience proving. 時間はかかったが我々の忍耐のかいがあった。
O that time's effects could but make her loving! 「時」のおかげで彼女に好意をもってもらうことができた。
Storms calm at last, 嵐もいつかは止む。
and why may not she leave off her frowning? 彼女だって機嫌を直してもよいではないか。
O sweet love, help her hands, my affection crowning. 愛の神よ、彼女の手をとって私の思いをとげさせたまえ
I woo'd her, I lov'd her, and none but her admire. 彼女を求め、愛し称えるのは彼女だけ。
O come, dear joy, and answer my desire! ああ、喜びよ、来たりて私の希望をかなえたまえ。
